| On Wednesday, October 18,
2006, Michigan took steps to ensure that the service and sacrifice of all
Fallen Officers in Michigan will be honored forever.
Governor Jennifer Granholm
and U.S. Senator John Kerry joined the Memorial Monument Commission and
200 others in dedicating the site of the future memorial that will honor
Michigan’s fallen officers in Lansing.
Before the unveiling of the
site sign, Governor Granholm stated, “The very least we can do is honor
the sacrifice of our fallen heroes.”
Governor Granholm and Commission
members Diane Philpot, James Niewiek and Kathy Cole unveiled the sign while
Honor Guards from Lansing Police Department and Eaton County Sheriff’s
Office stood watch. Many Police Departments in Michigan sent representatives
to the site dedication.
The site for the future monument
is near the Hall of Justice on Allegan Street, immediately south of the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Lansing.
